Sarasota Bay has been on absolute fire these past few weeks. Zero shortage of redfish, trout and tarpon….with a few GIANT snook mixed in as well. North Sarasota Bay has been producing some really nice sized schools of redfish. These fish are eating everything from live baits to artificials and flies!! Top water early in the morning has been the most productive. There have been tons of juvenile tarpon mixed in with these fish out on the flats. Look for birds diving on bait and mullet…you can usually find something larger trying to prey on them. We have seen some 20-25 in. trout on the flats as well. Top water lures have been the key for these guys. Either nickel, chrome or bone are the top choices for color! We are very pleased to see that the snook are back on the beach!! Great reports coming from Siesta Key, Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island. The water quality has improved immensely these past couple weeks making for some very happy and hungry fish. The snook out on the beach are eating flies and other smaller swim baits currently as the bait is still pretty small. We are carrying a new swimbait at the shop from NO LIVE BAIT NEEDED. These baits are absolutely perfect for BIG snook in heavy current around structure. Extremely lifelike and tough quality make for a deadly artificial bait. The next couple weeks should show us some larger baits out off of the beach and perhaps a few king mackerel to follow! Mangrove snapper, amberjacks and hogfish have been reported in the nearshore Gulf of Mexico. Higher winds were making it more difficult for smaller vessels to get out to the wrecks but we should see some nice opportunities in the coming month. As always, please stop in and let us know if you have questions….. and TIGHT LINES!!
