The tarpon are here!!! Crabs have been flowing very well on the tides this past week, which had definitely set off an insane tarpon bite in Sarasota!! Some local shops are carrying live crabs, they are running about $5 per crab this year. I strongly recommend dipping your own crabs if you are able to get out on an outgoing tide. Big Pass or New pass have been abundant. Offshore reports have been spotty due to weather but there have been some XL amberjacks, wahoo, African pompano and cobia reported these past couple weeks. Although tarpon have been the main point of interest, inshore fishing for snook, redfish and trout have been extremely productive!! Several 40″ snook reported in Sarasota Bay in the last two weeks. The flats are on fire!! Live bait is going to be best and with bait right off of the beach locating it hasn’t been too difficult.
