Fishing this time of year can be slightly slower but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty too be caught!! Due to the high winds, we find ourselves confined more to inshore and bay fishing. Utilize the grass flats and clear water!! Speckled trout have been extremely plentiful in Sarasota bay. We are seeing some 20″-23″ fish all caught on artificial. Brown and gold soft plastics have been the lure of choice for those fish. A ‘lil jon’ rigged on a weighted bass hook can easily be rigged weedless to avoid some of the floating grass or seaweed. You very well may encounter some redfish on those flats as well. Gold spoons can be effective for those reds.. throwing either 1/4oz or 1/2 oz spoons. Several reports of snook have already been reported from the flats which is typically early but that is a good sign!! The bait should move in with the water temp increase. This generaly brings out some larger snook and reds. There are still a good amount of triple tail off the beaches holding to the buoy lines, just need a calm window to get out. Live shrimp are best for those tripletail but they have been known to chew a fly as well!! try a neutral color shrimp pattern if you get a chance, and enjoy… they are delicious!! If you are fishing from land, try the sea walls and pilings for sheepshead! Live shrimp are perfect for those fish rigged on a 1/0 circle hook.
