The Gulf of Mexico is on fire!! The bait has officially moved in. Large schools of thread fins nearshore and offshore are present. A sabiki rig is always recommended which will help to make catching bait easier. Especially for those schools of threads. There have been 8 sailfish reported within the last two weeks in the nearshore gulf within 15 miles. All of those sails were reported from Longboat Key up to Anna Maria Island. Having those threadfins will be helpful as most of those sails were hooked on free lined threads. Large permit are being reported within 20 miles. Check the local wrecks!!! Live free lined smaller blue crabs are preferred by these fish, but they have been known to eat a shrimp as well. Still quite a few kings present, again those live threads will be your best best, trolled preferably. Red grouper are still abundant further out and reports of tuna around 55 mi mark have been reported as well. Several tarpon sightings near big pass have already been reported, surely with many more to follow. Still some pompano on the beach, and snook are coming in hot!! Tight Lines!!!
